High-Performance Cluster Computers at the INS and SFB 611

Eifel II Cluster       Himalaya Cluster       Myrinet switch

For practical investigations of the numerical methods developed at the INS and the SFB611, the institute maintains a grid consisting of three dedicated cluster computers, Himalaya, Eifel II and Siebengebirge. These systems have special high-performance networking hardware, allowing fast communication between the compute nodes separated from the service ethernet and without the TCP/IP protocol overhead. Himalaya performes 1269 GFlop/s in the Linpack benchmark test and thus was ranked 428 on the June 2005 Top500 list (press release, certificate).
