For practical investigations of the numerical methods developed at the INS and the SFB611, the institute maintains a grid consisting of two dedicated cluster computers, Himalaya and Eifel II. These systems have a Myrinet infrastructure, allowing fast communication between the compute nodes separated from the service ethernet and without the TCP/IP protocol overhead. Himalaya performes 1269 GFlop/s in the Linpack benchmark test and thus was ranked 428 on the June 2005 Top500 list (press release, certificate).
